Volkswagen Commercial vehicles: A historic roadshow
Ukraine International Airlines pilots set out on an unusual roadshow to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Volkswagen Transporter, known in 1950 as a legendary Bulli. They made a roadshow of the historic vehicles marking 25-year milestones in car manufacturing: T2, T4, T6 Multivan, and drove from Kyiv to Kharkiv and back. The event was held in partnership with Volkswagen Commercial vehicles - a brand for real adventure lovers.
This celebration is indeed unusual. First of all, it has a social mission: the pilots wanted to boost the morale of the UIA aircrew members. Then, they paid a symbolic visit to their home airport Boryspil as well as to Ukrainian regional airports that the pilots have been missing dearly as if to hint: we will be back in time when UIA resumes its domestic flights.
The historic roadshow was launched on a grand scale at the Boryspil airport on August 13. The motorcade started the run symbolically with spotting on a runway of the home airport. Before setting on their journey, the car run teams raffled off gifts and prizes provided by the partners of the event: Ukraine International Airlines and Volkswagen Commercial vehicles.
"We want to demonstrate a positive way of thinking and success achieved by Volkswagen and Fly UIA transport brands in Ukraine. Volkswagen T-model product range, as well as special features of driving long distances in retro vehicles, attracts the audience's attention to this project. Also, we would like to use this roadshow as an opportunity to turn the Ukrainians' attention to internal tourism to mitigate economic and psychological effects of the lockdown", explains Andrii Yakhnovets, the project manager, a driver of the historic T2 model, and the second pilot of a UIA-operated Boeing 737-800.
